Sweet Tooth — Candy Prop Design
For the independent horror film Sweet Tooth, I was brought on to design a series of custom candy props that would serve as key elements in the story. The script called for products like Sweet Tooth’s Poptastic Pop Candy and Sweet Tooth’s Super Hot Tamales — seemingly fun, nostalgic candies that gradually reveal their sinister nature.
My role was to create packaging that felt authentic enough to sit believably in a Halloween candy basket, while also supporting the film’s unsettling tone. I researched vintage candy box design and bold Halloween-inspired branding, then developed packaging concepts that blended playful typography, bright colors, and cartoon mascots with subtle hints of menace.
Each prop was designed to be both visually striking on camera and narratively functional — from the fiery branding of the tamales that foreshadow their dangerous effect, to the popping candy packs that appear harmless but contribute to one of the film’s most shocking moments.
The final designs not only enhanced the realism of the set but also became an integral part of the storytelling, helping the audience suspend disbelief and fully enter the twisted world of Sweet Tooth.
